Registered Nurse

PURPOSE

To serve as a Clark County Sheriff’s Office civilian employee whose primary responsibility is to, under the supervision of the jail physician, perform a variety of professional nursing services for inmates within the facility related to planning, organizing, monitoring and implementing nursing and medical care services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct care to patients and perform functions in accordance with current accepted practice, licensure, certification, credentialing and or granted privileges.
  • Provide treatment to inmates as appropriate to discipline and facility setting.
  • Respond to and or coordinate response to medical emergencies.
  • Appropriately document patient inmate encounters according to current standards of care using electronic health records.
  • Provide supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses and/or other medical staff, as assigned.
  • Evaluate health care needs of inmates and develop nursing care plans to meet those needs.
  • Provide assessment and treatment of inmates during sick call and refer to the jail physician as appropriate.
  • Provide screening of inmates during intake per established policies and procedures.
  • Obtain inmate medical histories and appropriately refer abnormal findings or responses or stated medical problems to the jail physician.
  • Draw labs as requested and collect laboratory specimens.
  • Destroy and properly dispose of all sharps to include but not limited to; needles and syringes according to hazardous waste, infection control and safety guidance.
  • Assist in the disposal of biologically hazardous wastes on a regular basis as needed.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, education or other needed treatments as ordered/recommended.
  • Adhere to professional nursing principals, procedures and techniques for appropriate inmate care and take direction from the jail physician and/or administrative personnel.
  • Adhere to medication administration guidelines, understand pharmaceutical agents and their desired effects. Recognize adverse effects and take appropriate corrective measures as needed.
  • Maintain safety when dispensing medications and be cognizant of the potential hazards of drug hoarding and trafficking among inmates.
  • Provide inmate health education as appropriate.
  • Coordinate health care needs of inmates with facility medical staff and coordinate referrals to off-site providers as determined by the jail physician.
  • Ensure that equipment, supplies and logs are available, correct and updated.
  • Ensure all equipment is functional and appropriately maintained.

PAY

$61,800 annual holiday pay $3,360 and additional salary commensurate with experience

$53,560 annual holiday pay $2,912 and additional pay commensurate with experience
